Origin
Tiger's Eye was originally named "Oculus Belus". Oculus means Eye and Belus was the name of the god of fortune. This stone has brought luck, protection and wealth for millennia. Mined in South Africa during the 19th century, Tiger's Eye was extremely rare and sold at the price of precious stones. A century later, other deposits in North Africa will lower the price of the stone to bring it to the rank of semi-precious stone.
Composition
Tiger's Eye belongs to the quartzite family. It consists of silicon dioxide, in other words Quartz, amphibole and hematite. On the Mohs scale, its hardness is 7 and its specific gravity is 2.68. Its color varying from golden to brown can be translucent or opaque.
